Insightful Commentary

I have to admit that I first came to love Rune Grammofon for the wrong reasons: its staggeringly beautiful cover designs. Discovering that they were all done by Kim Hiorthoy only put me more in awe of the guy's talent as his Hopeness EP and live show at the MFA were the highpoints of 2004 for me.

But this sampler---along with the Phonophani album proper---demonstrate that the label's taste extends beyond the visual. An extremely diverse mixture of experimental electronic and jazz artists, the record leaves me scratching my head at the eclecticism of this label's `sound' ... if it can even be said to have one.
