Insightful Commentary
It's tough not to immediately say Postal Service when an emo-popper goes all electronic on us these days. But whereas the Death Cab offshoot felt like a calculated and poorly-fitting mixture of styles in order to show that Mr Gibbard had range, this side project by the folks from Pedro the Lion both sounds entirely genuine and acts as an extension of the style we've heard on previous albums. The bleeps and pops provide a nice background for the typically mournful Bazan vocals, and don't draw undue attention to themselves—though some of the more 8-bit sounding lines (like the opening to I Never Wanted You) are pretty beautiful by any definition.
